Withings to Link Aura Smart Alarm Clock to Spotify

Link Aura Smart Alarm Clock to Spotify

Do you have trouble falling asleep (or waking up)? Perhaps a soothing soundtrack will help you drift off to dreamland or get out of bed in a better mood.

Withings this week said it will upgrade its Aura connected alarm clock to integrate with Spotify, so that you can fall asleep or wake up to favorite tunes or a special curated playlist from Withings.

The company's home lineup, meanwhile, will also now work with Android, while customers can purchase the Aura alarm clock without the sleep sensor accessory.

The Aura gradually wakes people up via a blue melatonin light, and a firmware update later this year will throw Spotify music into the mix, provided you have a Spotify Premium account.

"We've created an official account with awesome playlists for the smoothest wake up and the most relaxing sleep," Withings said. Those playlists are live now and will be integrated with the Aura by year's end.

Music-enhanced slumber doesn't come cheap, but it's now slightly more affordable. Previously, customers had to purchase the Aura Connected Alarm Clock and sleep sensor accessory for the bed for $299.95. Withings will now sell the alarm clock without the sleep sensor for $189.95.

In PCMag's review of the $299.95 package, we noted that in addition to the blue light, the stylish Aura also includes white noise and wake-up sounds and is easy to set up, while the app consolidates all your Withings data.

We detracted points for the lack of wake-up music, though, something this news rectifies, for Spotify members at least. We also noted that it was iOS-only, which Withings also fixed this week by making its entire product portfolio compatible with Android.
