Samsung to Shutter Milk Video Service

Less than a year after Samsung Milk Video hit Galaxy devices, the streaming service is getting the pink slip.

In a message on the Google Play product page, Samsung announced that Milk Video will shut down on Nov. 20.

Users still have about two months to discover and share videos, but Samsung encouraged users to make the switch to its Milk Music app, which is still available to download.

Exclusive to Samsung Galaxy users, Milk Video aimed to deliver "the freshest, most interesting videos on the Web." It arrived about eight months after Milk Music with content from Condé Nast, Funny or Die, Red Bull, Vevo, and Vice, among others. The service took into account your watch history to serve up video recommendations.

The app, which had about 5-10 million installs in 10 months, had its share of issues; many user reviews focused on chronic crashes, while others complained that they could not delete the app.

Samsung did not provide further details about the closure, but promised the closure will not affect Milk Music.

"At Samsung, we strive to deliver great content experiences across all our devices, while constantly working to make those unique experiences for our consumers," a spokeswoman told PCMag in an emailed statement.

"As part of our ongoing strategy, the Samsung Milk Video service will no longer be available as of November 20, 2015," she continued. "We are committed to providing premium entertainment services that cater to a rapidly changing and wide variety of interests and needs of our consumers."
