Sony Wireless Speaker Doubles as TV Remote

We all know someone who turns the TV volume so high that your brain rattles, but Sony has a solution: A wireless remote with built-in speaker.

The SRS-LSR100—or "Handy TV speaker," as the translated product page said—is set for release on Sept. 12 in Japan, for ¥19,880 yen (about $167).

Can't hear Seinfeld reruns over the sound of cooking in the kitchen? Don't want to disturb housemates with midnight episodes of True Detective? Just grab the clunky remote, turn the giant knob, and hold it close to your ears for up to 16 hours of battery-powered entertainment. Or plug a pair of headphones in for a truly personalized experience.

Weighing in at nearly one pound, according to The Verge, the device comes with a base station; connect it to your TV to transmit audio and recharge the remote. It even comes with an easy-to-carry handle and drip-proof outer shell for use in a messy kitchen or nearby spill-prone people.
The $167 package comes with the charging cradle, AC adapter, micro USB cable, audio cable, and optical digital cable, and the promise of free shipping.

This comes three months after Sony unveiled its LED Light Bulb Speaker in Japan. A Bluetooth speaker that screws into a light fixture, the 360-lumen bulb is controlled via a smartphone app.
Sony suggests setting up its LED Light Bulb Speaker, selling in Japan for ¥23,880 ($200), in the kitchen, bedroom, living room, or dining room for more precise light and sound.

Sony, meanwhile, this week offered a first look at its upcoming business-focused drone, produced by Aerosense—a joint company from Sony Mobile Communications and Japanese robotics firm ZMP.
