Despite the lukewarm reaction to last year's event, Amazon says this will be "the biggest Amazon event ever" with more than 100,000 deals, exclusively for Prime members. The event starts at midnight PT on Tuesday, July 12, with new deals added as often as every five minutes in the US. Here's what you need to know to take advantage of the savings:
First and foremost, to participate, you'll need to be a Prime member or sign up for Amazon's service before July 12. For the uninitiated, Prime offers free two-day shipping on Amazon.com orders, plus a number of other perks, including access to thousands of movies and TV shows. If you're new to Prime, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial; otherwise the service will set you back $99 a year or $10.99 a month.
What type of deals can you expect to find? Amazon says it'll discount items across "nearly all departments and categories. The retailer has promised to have nearly two times as many TV sets in stock compared to Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined in the US. Prime members in the US can also look forward to deal on toys, household goods, and apparel throughout the day.
One new component this year is the opportunity for customers in more than 25 metro US areas to get select deals delivered in an hour or less via Prime Now; Amazon promises deals on more than 500 items. Plus, those who place their first Prime Now order tomorrow can use the promotional code 10PRIMENOW to receive an extra $10 off that order, plus a promo code for an additional $10 off later in the month.
You can also score additional discounts by shopping with Alexa. Those with an Alexa-enabled device can find exclusive deals tomorrow by simply asking "Alexa, what are your Prime Day deals?" Prime members will get $10 off their first purchase of $20 or more when they place an order via Alexa tomorrow.
