ZTE is now accepting pre-orders for the $400 Axon 7 smartphone, the first official Google Daydream VR-compatible handset.
The device is also the only unlocked Snapdragon 820-powered device available in the US for less than $500; get it via Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, Newegg, or ZTE USA. No official release date was announced, though the Amazon listing says it arrives on July 27.
"The Axon 7 is exactly what the US market told us they want, value and need—a shake-up among overpriced flagship smartphones," ZTE USA CEO Lixin Cheng said in a statement.
Produced in partnership with BMW Group's Designworks, the next-gen gadget comes in gold or gray, with a large fingerprint sensor on the back and modern specs.
The 6-inch smartphone features a 5.5-inch, 2,560-by-1,440 AMOLED screen covered in Gorilla Glass, with an 8-megapixel front camera, 20-megapixel rear shooter, and dual stereo speakers. Powered by a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 820 processor, it also includes a 3,140mAh battery and dual SIM slot for two carrier SIMs (or a microSD card), plus 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a USB-C port on the bottom.
Add to that support for Daydream, Google's mobile VR platform.
ZTE will also throw in a clear case, screen protector, Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 USB-C type 3 charger, and in-ear headphones, as well as the Axon Passport 2.0 warranty.
