Report: Twitter to Name Jack Dorsey Permanent CEO

The search for a new Twitter CEO may be over.

The site's co-founder, Jack Dorsey, who is currently serving as interim CEO, is expected to be named the company's permanent chief, according to a Wednesday Re/code report citing unnamed sources. The announcement could arrive as early as Thursday.

Jack DorseyIf true, the move wouldn't be a huge surprise, given that Dorsey has reportedly been the frontrunner in Twitter's CEO search since Dick Costolo stepped down in June after six years. Costolo, meanwhile, has remained on Twitter's board since leaving his role as CEO, but that could soon change.

"Sources added that there is likely to be some shake-up of the board too, most immediately the departure of Costolo as a director," Re/code's Kara Swisher and Kurt Wagner reported.

The Twitter CEO search reportedly came down to two top candidates—Dorsey and the company's head of revenue Adam Bain—but "Bain refused to take the job so long as Dorsey still wanted it … So Dorsey it is," Re/code reported.

The only problem — Dorsey is already the CEO of Square, and that doesn't look to be changing any time soon.

"Dorsey will apparently continue to run Square, the payments company he founded where he's also CEO," according to the report.

Meanwhile, rumor has it you may soon be able to post content longer than 140 characters on Twitter. Re/code earlier this week reported that Twitter is working on a "new product" that will let you post tweets that surpass the current limit.
