Need to text in more than one language? Google added new multilingual features to the Android keyboard this week that make it easier to switch between tongues on the fly.
The keyboard, which Google refers to as "Gboard," will now automatically detect the language you're typing in, without the need to tap on the globe icon to switch between the more than 120 languages the keyboard supports.
As The Verge notes, you can also now translate text from one language to another directly from the keyboard using the "Translate" button. This could eliminate the hassle of firing up the separate Translate app and then copying and pasting the text.
In addition to new language features, Gboard now also includes automatic suggestions for emoji and GIFs, a helpful addition in an era when those symbols have replaced many common words in casual text conversations. You can also now share GIFs in apps that support Gboard, including Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, Hangouts, and Allo.
You'll also find a new streaming autocorrect feature, which looks at the last two words you've typed before it suggests a context-based correction. Finally, Gboard gets a deeper search integration, which will offer search suggestions based on what you type.
It's worth noting that the Gboard is also available on the App Store for iOS devices. The iOS version was updated last month with many of the new features rolling out to Android today, such as emoji and GIF search options. Gboard for iOS also supports Google Doodles and voice typing.
