Warren Spector is Back Making Games Again

WARREN SPECTOR, THE veteran game designer best known for his work on influential titles like Deus Ex and Thief: The Dark Project, has stepped back into the developer world, joining OtherSide Entertainment.

The studio, founded by Paul Neurath—who worked with Spector on the Ultima Underworld role-playing series—is currently involved in resuscitating two of Spector’s best-known properties. As studio director, Spector working with the company to make System Shock 3 and Underworld Ascendant, each a long-awaited third title in their respective series.

For Spector, this is a return to professional game development after a stint in academia; after finishing work on two Epic Mickey games in 2013, Spector joined the University of Texas at Austin to build the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy, a post-graduate program for videogame development.

While this is his first official post at OtherSide, Spector has been a creative advisor for the young company since its foundation. “I’ve loved working with students as Director of the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy in the University of Texas’ Moody College of Communication,” Spector told gamesindustry.biz.

“But when the opportunity to have a bigger role in bringing Underworld Ascendant to life, as well as playing in the System Shock universe once again, helping to bring these games to a 21st century audience, I just couldn’t say no.”
