Why Baidu, Google, Microsoft, and Qualcomm Bet on CloudFlare

Amazon Prime will be substantially cheaper on Friday to celebrate the success of the e-commerce giant's original series.

Amazon will offer its Prime service for $67 on Friday, down from its standard $99 annual price tag. Amazon says the deal, which is only available to new members, will go into effect at midnight ET on Friday and last until 11:59 p.m. PT that day.

The discount is celebrating Amazon's five wins, including Best Actor and Best Director for Amazon's original series Transparent, at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night—hence the $67 price tag.

"This has been an incredibly exciting year—with the Golden Globes wins in January and now twelve nominations and five Primetime Emmy wins. We are thrilled to celebrate Transparent with our customers by offering a Prime discount," Michael Paull, Vice President of Digital Video for Amazon, said in a statement. "Congratulations again to Jill Soloway, Jeffrey Tambor, and the cast and crew of Transparent for making such a beautiful show, and to our customers—enjoy!"
When the show won its Golden Globes earlier this year, Amazon made the show free for all for one weekend.

Season two of Transparent will premiere on Dec. 4.

Amazon Prime offers customers free two-day shipping on more than 20 million items, along with access to the company's Prime Instant Video streaming service where the series Transparent airs. Amazon Prime also includes access to the company's Cloud Drive and the Kindle Owners' Lending Library. Same-day delivery is available to Prime customers in 14 metro areas.

In an effort to attract more Prime customers and celebrate its 20th anniversary, Amazon in July held a "Prime Day" of discounts for Prime members. Many users were less than impressed with the selection and availability, but Amazon said sales topped Black Friday.
