'System Shock: Enhanced Edition' Available on GOG Now

Twenty years after System Shock was released, the beloved first-person action role-playing game is back from the dead.

Fans of the original and newbies alike can grab System Shock: Enhanced Edition for $8 on GOG.com now through Sept. 29 and experience all the action at 1,024-by-768 pixels, which according to Wired is double the original resolution. There's also an 854-by-480 widescreen mode.

The Enhanced Edition also comes with a classic version of the game, just in case you'd rather re-live the action as you did back in the day.
For the uninitiated, here's a description of the game:

"You're a renowned hacker, the most notorious cyberspace thief in the corporate world. Caught during a risky break-in, you become indentured to Diego, a greedy Trioptium exec who bankrolls a rare cyberjack implant operation. After six months in a healing coma, you awaken to the twisted aftermath of a terrible disaster. Where are the surgeons? Why is the station in such disrepair? Slowly, the chilling realization that something is very wrong creeps over you."

The formerly renowned Citadel research facility has been overtaken by "mindless cyborgs, robots and terribly mutated beings, all programmed to serve Shodan, a ruthless A.I."

You'll "rocket through cyberspace" to hack security and steal information, go to battle against "killer cyborgs and deadly robots" to collect new hardware and patches, and solve puzzles in your efforts to outwit Shodan.
