Stream Web TV on Comcast Watchable

As expected, Comcast today launched Watchable—a cross-platform video service that curates online video content.

Currently in beta, Watchable is available on iOS, the Web, and Comcast's X1 DVR.
tvhable has about 30 digital partners, many of which don't otherwise have a TV presence, and are recognized mostly for Web-based programming. That includes AwesomenessTV, CelebTV, Collective Digital Studio, Defy Media, Discovery Digital Networks, Fast Company, Flama, Future Today, GarageMonkey, GoPro, Junkin Media, Machinima, Maker Studios, Mashable, Mic Media, NBCUniversal, Network A, Newsy, POPSUGAR, Red Bull, Scripps Networks Interactive, Tastemade, TEN, TYT Network, Video Detective, and Vox.

As the service expands, Comcast will add more network partners, make the experience more personalized, and include options to share content online.

"The Web has changed the way we all think about video," Sam Schwartz, chief business development officer for Comcast, wrote in a blog post. "A new class of online creators and producers is developing innovative content that is attracting big audiences."

All Watchable beta content is supported entirely through advertising, so be prepared for commercial breaks. Show are oorganized by categories like Auto, Entertainment, Fashion & Style, Food & Travel, Funny, Gaming, Music, News, Science & Technology, and Sports.

"We want to continue to connect creators of compelling content with viewers who want to be entertained, and have been experimenting with new partnerships to deliver more high-quality videos from the Web, especially to the television," Schwartz said.

Verizon recently launched a similar, app-based service known as Go90. It too is ad-supported and works on iOS and Android.

Comcast, meanwhile, is also prepping a streaming service, dubbed Stream, which will let Internet customers access broadcast channels and HBO on their mobile devices for $15 per month.
