If you're trying to connect with business colleagues or family, don't count on Skype today.
Microsoft's VoIP appears to be unusable for some customers.
"We have detected an issue with the status settings of Skype," Skype engineer Leonas Sendrauskas wrote in a blog post.
Some affected users cannot log into Skype, let alone start calls or change their status; those who are able to load the program are listed as offline.
"We're working on a fix for this issue and hope to have an update for you soon," Sendrauskas said. "Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused while we get this resolved."
The hitch comes just days after the Skype team announced that users will be able to make voice and video calls without needing to install a plugin on Microsoft Edge. A similar experience will also roll out to Skype for Business.
The ORTC (Object Real-Time Communications) API—available now to Windows Insider Preview members—enables real-time audio and video communications apps to run on top of Redmond's new browser. No more plugins means faster Skype for Web and Outlook.com experiences.
Also new for preview members: Start menu improvements, Tablet mode updates, a handful of Windows 10 app renovations (including Photos, Xbox, Groove, Mail, Calendar, and Maps), and text input panel upgrades, among other changes.
Redmond also fixed a handful of problems, promised more language packs, and warned of some known issues. Plus, Windows Insiders who love gaming can tap into the new Gaming on Insider Preview forum topic to get support for issues with preview builds.
