Your Mac is about to get an upgrade. OS X El Capitan arrives on Sept. 30.
Apple teased that date during a demo at its Wednesday iPhone event, but it has now been confirmed on the El Capitan website. "There's more to love with every click," it says. "Coming September 30."
Apple first unveiled the new OS at its Worldwide Developer Conference in June and it's been in the hands of developers ever since.
The OS will be available to Mac users as a free download in the Mac App Store. For more, check out the video below and PCMag's first look at El Capitan.
On the mobile OS front, Apple on Wednesday announced that iOS 9 will be available on Sept. 16 as a free update for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users. The new mobile OS brings proactive search, improved Siri features, and the ability to use two apps at once, side by side on newer devices. Other new features include a redesigned Notes app, transit info in Maps, and the News app.
"iOS 9 is packed with intelligence that makes every experience with iPhone and iPad even more powerful — Siri can do more than ever and new proactive assistance helps you get more done before you ask, all while protecting users' privacy," Apple's Craig Federighi said in a statement. "With iOS 9 we focused on strengthening the foundation of iOS with a deep focus on quality, and with the help of more than one million users who participated in our first ever public beta program, we're excited to release the best version of iOS yet."
While the masses will have to wait another week to try out the new mobile OS, developers can get their hands on a pre-release version right now. Apple on Wednesday released iOS 9.1 beta for members of its Developer Program.
