Apple WatchOS 2 Arrives After Bug Fix

Good news, Apple Watch wearers. The first big update for Apple's smartwatch operating system has arrived. Apple on Monday released WatchOS 2 after delaying the rollout last week due to a bug.

Apple review, Apple commentary, Apple news... Everything AppleTo download the update, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, find the General menu, and tap on Software Update. Before downloading it, be sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and your Watch is connected to its charger and has at least 50 percent juice. Your iPhone will need to be running iOS 9 to download the update.

The new operating system "makes apps faster and more fluid by running natively on Apple Watch," and brings some new watch faces along with the ability for third-party apps to display information on the watch face. A new feature called Time Travel lets you easily scroll through upcoming events. You'll also be able to more quickly respond to Mail with dictation, Smart Replies, or emojis.

PCMag's Sascha Segan got some hands-on time with the new watch software at Apple's iPhone launch earlier this month, and said it "makes the watch even more fashionable, but it doesn't solve the utility question."

"I can only understand the Watch as a fashion item," Segan concluded. "It's an elegant design statement that has some useful technology features, not a life-changing piece of technology that happens to have some style. That might change as developers try the new native-app and complication APIs in WatchOS 2."

Meanwhile, Apple recently expanded its watch line up with a number of new case and band options, including gold and rose gold aluminium sport models.
